January 2014 Meeting Recap

On January 21 Dr. Courtney Schumacher from Texas A&M University visited OUSCAMS to tell us about her work with the Madden-Julian Oscillation in the Maldives. Here is sophomore member Brett Borchardt's opinion of the presentation:

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Shumacher’s lecture about the MJO and the associated climatological consequences.  Having only recently heard bits and pieces about the MJO from friends, I did not realize how big of an impact the phenomenon has on global weather.  It was great to finally be able to see the big picture with regard to all the MJO can influence, and how it can impact even the weather here, in America.  Certainly, I look forward to hearing more about the MJO and the latest research in future projects, as well as new developing theories as to how we can combat extreme weather to keep as much as the global community safe as possible.

Stay tuned for our next post about the Groundhog's Day party!
